Good Converter Box June 15, 2010 James T. Hawkins (where the sun always shines) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I read a little of the other reviews and none of that stuff happened to me. It remembers all my channels its very quiet (however the apex digital converter box isn`t). Plus its great for the road because the power cord isn`t built in so you can buy a cigarette lighter power adapter for it. Out of the 4 boxes I have its the only one with that feature. Plus it has THE BEST parental controls out of the magnavox one, the apex digital one, and the digital stream one. Know why? It lets you unblock shows without having to turn off the controls all together. I`m not saying its perfect there are a few things missing such as you can see whats on but you can`t get a description of the show like other boxes. The remote is good as well. It is universal and its the most complete remote out of all th ones I own. One last thing is it seems to get pretty hot but it hasn`t caused any problems so that must not be a big thing. So to wrap up I`ll just tell you the only real problem with this box YOU CAN`T GET DESCRIPTIONS OF SHOWS. Theres is no perfect converter box but this is closest
Doesn't last June 14, 2010 xx242 (Novi, MI USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased the Access HD 1080U model from another website. It's supposed to be the same thing except with a universal remote. When I opened the box I was surpised that it was only about 4 x 4. The printing on the outside of the box and at the website said it was 7 x 8 x 2 or something like that. It was extremely hot whenever it was on as though it had no fan at all. Otherwise it worked great for three weeks. Then suddenly while I was changing the channel the picture turned to black and white wavy lines with some straight lines. Every channel was like that except for a couple that had color with the same kind of wavy lines and straight lines. The sound was still fine. From the place where I bought it, it came with a two year warranty and within 90 days of purchase I was able to return it to the store instead of having to pack it up and mail it. I wouldn't buy anything else made by this company. They don't seem to be very trustworthy. I put the blame on the manufacturer. The seller doesn't know it's defective until the customer brings it back.
Poor Customer Service and no refunds April 5, 2010 Techy (fernley, nv) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This box did nothing at all. I had two channels before the box and I had two channeles with their box. I purchase a highly rated antenna still nothing. This weekend I looked all over the internet for ways to make it work nothing worked. Tried to send the box back for a refund within 3 days of the purchase they would not give me a refund.
What kind of customers service is this? Make sure you know this box works before you purchase.
Amazon please STOP doing business with this company! February 9, 2010 dee (USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This company sucks !!!!! Like someone else wrote my converter box also stopped
working. I called the company and got a recording to go online ...no help there, called the company again left a message ...no one called me back , called them again and pushed every exchange trying to talk to a real person and finally found a message that told where to send the broken unit for replacement...I mailed it off and after several weeks got a replacement that does not even turn on. I wrote a letter to them and they did call and said the problem is probably the cord and they gave me a telephone number to call if the replacement cord does not solve the problem...after 3 weeks and not recieving the cord I called the number and someone disconected me then it kept going to voice mail that said mailbox full. I eventually talked to the guy who originally called in response to my letter and he said the cord was suppose to have been sent...well it has been over 2 months and I still do not have the cord. I am so glad I bought a new digital TV or I would still have no TV in my kitchen. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY ....LISTEN TO THE CRITICAL REVIEWS WE ARE TELLING THE TRUTH!!!!
What a Joke!!! October 10, 2009 Jody (Tiny Village in Vermont) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I got this convertor box with the government coupon. After installing, I noticed a constant humming noise (not bad if TV was loud enough) and faint diagonal strobing. I thought: Well, so much for the "wonderful new digital TV signal." One evening in early August, just 3½ months after installing, I turned the TV on, and had no digital picture. I checked to make sure that nothing on the box had been turned off or unplugged and that there were no loose connections between it and the TV, or antenna. Everything was fine. The box, usually quite warm to the touch, was colder than an icecube! I unhooked everything, and plugged the box into a different outlet: Nothing... dead. I had bought a Phillip's convertor box to hook up to my VCR so I could watch one channel/record another. I hadn't hooked it up yet, so unpacked it and hooked it up to the TV. Guess what?- NO humming noise, NO diagonal strobing..... PERFECT picture. The Access HD boxes were, I believe, created to fill an underestimated demand. People ordered them when there was little else available and got ripped off, in my opinion. Some might say that folks shouldn't complain if they got them with a coupon, but- the changeover was NOT supposed to incur fees/charges to the consumer. Now, I have to purchase a new box for my VCR at full cost to me. I think Amazon should feel embarrassed to be associated with the Access HD products!
