I purchased the new model No No and the small area kit. The small area kit only works on my underarms and knees. It will not activate correctly for any other area. I can also use the regular unit on my knees so I'm not sure that the small area kit was a good investment for me. I can't get the regular unit to work in the under arm area at all so the kit is getting used. Just not as much as the full size blades.
I like the window that shows you the life of the charge and the heating level. The orig style doesn't have either. However, for the difference in price - if I owned the orig model or didn't want to pay the new and improved price I wouldn't upgrade. There is a lot of talk on whether this item works as advertised. I've been using mine for just over 4 weeks. Primarily for the bikini area but I also use it on my legs. From the first use in the bikini area I could tell it works...just not as quickly as I wanted it to.
First, let me say that "bikini area" is a subjective term and I used a very liberal definition when I experimented with the No No. Let's also say, no area was off limits until I found what areas were workable and which were not. MOST ALL of the area is accessible and workable. Especially with the different heat settings. The trick is to flatten the area that's being worked by pulling the skin in one direction or another. Once you removed the course hair, the pores shrink so you do not see the "shadow". The hair grows back a lot slower and less hair is growing back. And everything is smoother then shaving alone.
The biggest con to the process is that you need hair to use the product. i.e. stubble. The No No needs to make contact with the hair shaft to work so you need to develop a process if you are going to invest the time to use the No No. Here's mine. I need at least 2 to 3 days growth for the best results. I don't try to do all areas in a single sitting. I break it down to zones. One day I'll do the legs. The next time the bikini area. You can use the buffers included but I've found that my Neutrogena Healthy Skin Rejuvenator works quicker then the buffers. Once I've used the No No - I hop into the shower and buff the area. I then shave to remove the remaining stubble. You will never remove everything with the No No in a single sitting and that is why I shave after using it. Two to three days later I do it all over again. If you are not willing to live with stubble on the areas that you are "working with" then this isn't the unit you want.
There are some higher priced products out there that use light and laser technology. (A quick internet search brings them up.) You don't need hair growth for those because the product looks for hair pigment to work. (It doesn't need to make contact with the hair.) The problem with those unites - other than cost - is that those of us who are blonds, redheads or graying, can't use them because we don't have enough pigment in our hair for the units to "see" to work. Also, they can't be used on dark skin because they can't distinguish between the pigment in the skin and the hair so the darker your skin the more likely you can seriously burn your skin with the light and/or laser units. So until they come up with something better, I'm happy with the No No. YES...it's slower then I want but it works and in a couple more months I should be able to cut back on the "process" and still get the same good results.
