Snowmageddon February 11, 2010 William J. Flynn Jr. (Seboomook, ME) In the winter snows of 2010 I have had the benefit and peace of mind of knowing when power outages occurred, and when power was restored. We winter in Georgia, and the house is in PA near Philadelphia. It works beautifully and was easy to set up. Caution: This is easy, but technology challenged oldsters should have someone savvy set it up- especially if there is an answering machine. It is truly a pleasure to find a product that does exactly as needed, and exactly as advertised!
It's a keeper. February 3, 2010 john@westney.net (New York State) I'm rating this product at fully five stars because it's simple, uncomplicated, and does just what I need it to do.
It seems well made. It's easy to understand. It comes with good directions. I read the direction all they way through, but its pretty much like any voice mail system: you just listen to the nice lady and use your telephone keypad to tell it what you want. You can control most of the settings by dialing-in from anywhere.
If you are next to the unit (rather than dialing-in remotely) then you plug your touch tone phone in to the special jack in the front; you can control your settings and test the unit.
There are a few other settings that are controlled by dip switches.
I often dial in to the unit. It tells me the temperature, and the battery voltage, and whether the power is on. By dialing in, I am reassured that the phone line is working correctly.
If you use the unit with an answering machine, they've got a solution for that too. But it adds complexity so I bagged the answering machine.
Prior to purchasing I called the tech support number. I got a real live human being with actual working brain cells. She spoke clear English and provided useful answers to my questions.
So the unit does everything that I want it to. No more. No Less. For that I give it five stars.
Freeze alarm for any cold climate January 30, 2010 Dave Blorns Freeze alarm works great. We love it. The only thing I would change is the backup battery connection. Difficult to snap in the battery and I worried about breaking the connectors inside the alarm, but I did get the battery installed. Other than that, it works great.
Plan to use it while out of the country. January 16, 2010 Globetrotter (NY) I have been using this product successfully for a while. It is everything everyone on this site says it is: easy to install and cheap for the protection that it gives....priceless for the peace of mind it provides. I have used it also to save on oil bills. For instance, we are having a relative heatwave (in the 40's) so I have turned off the furnace altogether and will probably keep it off for another two weeks. I have programmed it to call me if the temp drops below 39 degrees. I live an hour's drive away, so I check the ten-day forecast and plan my trips out to the house accordingly. I also call it from time to time to check the temperature, for peace of mind. I plan to use it while I am traveling this year, and check in from abroad. I have come to rely on it to this extent. Great product.
Excellent product January 10, 2010 Richard C. Rohnert The Control Products FA-I-CCA Freeze Alarm is an excellent product. As the house with the alarm is for sale, it was useful to check remotely if a Real Estate agent had returned the thermostat to 55 degrees when he left.
The only difficulty I am having is finding how to change Celsius readout to Fahrenheit. The product description doesn't say what scale is provided. It is a minor inconvenience and I can convert.
