I have just used this mower 2 times and it has performed very well. I have used a Black and Decker for quite a few years, but it died so I tried this mower. It came quickly, was easy to assemble (and yes it did smell some when I opened the package) and it cuts the grass in a very satisfactory way. I like that the body is metal and not plastic, though this makes it heavier than the Black and Decker I have been using, but it gives me the feeling that it might last longer. Hopefully I will have many years of cutting with this mower.

After our gas mower broke down for the third time this year, we finally decided to purchase a new one. After days of scouring home improvement stores in person and online, researching customer reviews, gas vs. electric, etc, I finally settled on this one.
As for power, it works great. Definitely no complaints in this department, even though we switched from a gas mower.
As I've supervised the mowing of the lawn a few times, I've noticed that my fiance has a bit of a problem with 'cord management'. If you follow the suggestions in the book, you'll be fine. Work your way out from the outlet with the cord following behind you and it won't get in your way. Of course, my fiance must do things the hard way, or the opposite way of how I suggest he do things, so he has to deal with the cord the whole time. He'll learn one day.
It's also a lot lighter than our gas mower. I'm highly allergic to grass, so I rarely venture out to cut it myself. However, I've pushed the gas mower around a bit, and when I tried out this one - I noticed a HUGE difference. I could even lift the shipping box!
One thing I really noticed is how much quieter this mower is versus our gas mower. I can actually talk (or yell) to him while he's mowing. (This is really good since he still isn't that great at cord management!)
The final thing I will say, is that this mower is an excellent alternative to gas mowers - not only is it better for the environment, quieter, and lighter, but it definitely holds it's own being a replacement for a gas mower. I can't believe we didn't switch earlier!

We purchased this based on previous reviews and that it was a good $20 cheaper than other websites. This is our first electrical mower and had previously been using a push reel mower. We received this today and set-up was very easy and required no tools. Once we got it set up (and waited for the extension cord to be delivered), I was all set to use it. I ordered the Coleman 12 gauge 100 ft extension cord to go with and did not have issues connecting it to the mower. There are several settings to adjust the cut of the grass. Per the instructions, I chose one of the highest settings since our grass was really long. The mower was very easy to use and navigate, despite the high grass. My husband was so happy with the results when I was done. We are so glad I used the higher setting as it really made our lawn look and feel very plush. I still need to figure out how to keep the extension cord in place but that will come in time. I think I will need to need to get a 50 ft cord as 100 ft is too long for our yard. The bag didn't seem as though it was filling that well, but maybe the grass stuffed in the opening was normal. I liked the look of the lawn mower and am very happy with the purchase so far. I can't wait to tackle the back yard!

Chose this mower over the B&D, seemed a little smaller and had a better cutting deck. Previously had a reel mower but if the grass gets out of hand in any fashion you've got to weedeat. Anyways, I have <5000sqft yard and use a 100ft 12 ga extension cord I got off amazon as well. Don't screw with trying to get the cord in that slot, just tie a knot in the cord and run the mower plugin through it. That keeps everything together. I started off using the mulching plug, and that seemed to do a pretty good job even in the heavy stuff. You could definitely tell it bogs down in really high stuff, so lift the front wheels and set it down on it, don't try to push it through. Pretty similar to a smaller push mower. Got one complete mow out of it, then started again on a significantly shorter yard the next week. Also decided to go with the side discharge this time since I figured the clippings would be less. Got halfway through the back yard when I smelled something burning. Stopped the mower and that's when I noticed smoke coming from the motor area. Took the cover off, and the motor had burned up and melted part of the mower. Mind you this was shorter grass and I was not going at some breakneck speed or abusing it. Called earthwise and they sent me to a local repair shop where the work was free as it was less than 30 days since purchase. Unfortunately that put me out of action for 2 weeks with a half mowed lawn. Was able to mow the front yard with zero problems after getting it back, but after attacking the back yard again I am wary of burning up the mower. I did half last night because I thought I smelled something and the mower seemed a little warm. I am going to give this mower more time to prove itself, when it works it's as good as a gas push mower. As for the cord, just remember you need to be going down and back, not laps around the yard. The cord plugs in on the right so you should make a left turn at the end of your run. That puts the cord on left for the new run and in the grass you've already mowed. Keep up that pattern and you will have zero problems.

Like many others these days, we've had to cut costs at home due to employment "downsizing." We used to pay a lawn service to mow, edge, and sweep for about $100 per month. This new mower will pay for itself in less than two months. Paying a mowing service was convenient, but not a necessary expense. I decided we could do our lawn ourselves and bought a Scott's 20" reel mower, which is a pretty darn good human-powered mower. But it's hard to operate if the grass gets too high or if the ground is marshy due to rain. It's also non-functional if the mower isn't moving, such as in tight spaces. After doing some extensive research, I bought the Earthwise 50120 electric mower. I nearly bought a B&D, but the build quality of this mower, and functionality, changed my direction. The reviews were positive, and I felt it was a better choice.
I'm THRILLED with this mower! Set up was quite simple, just needing to assemble the upper handle. I'm not one to read manuals, prefer to figure things out on my own, but thought I should read this one since I've never used an electric mower and also know that a high-speed blade can probably do some damage if not operated properly.
Needing a 100' extension cord, I had to return to Home Depot to buy a 12-gauge cord since the amperage calls for the heavier cord to carry the current efficiently. (This is one HEAVY extension cord!) The fit through the cord loop is tight, but it works. And yes, it takes some strategy to manipulate the extension cord without it getting in the way of mowing, but that will just take a few "laps around the lawn" to develop a system.
We've had several days of rain, and more is expected this week. The ground was soft, the grass was still damp and quite thick. This mower chewed right through it like a famished goat.
I'll tell you this...I'm an average size/height woman and found this mower to be exceptionally easy to maneuver, feeling very light-weight because of the balance of the mower. As others have said, you can operate this mower with one hand, holding the cord in the other. Seriously, it's as easy to handle as a vacuum cleaner. The variable height setting is a piece of cake to change, and the on/off function by simply pulling a lever is terrific! It's electric...there's no pulling of a cord, no prep necessary. Just plug in, flip the handle lever, and you're ready to roll! It's also pretty quiet for a lawn mower, not the gritty growl of a gas mower. It sounds like electric with an attitude. Did I mention that it does a tremendous job of cutting? I set it up with the mulcher having heard so many good reviews -- it does work well, the clippings disappear into the grass to eventually create natural fertilizer.
Happy hubby and I have gone outside several times tonight to admire our handywork. We had to keep switching off because we both wanted to take this baby for a spin! Hubby was having so much fun, he even mowed part of the neighbor's yard!
If you're wanting to take care of a small yard (1/4 acre) and not wrestle with the mechanics of a gas mower, this is an excellent choice. If you've been using a reel mower and are looking for something easy to operate that will provide a great cut whether it's in motion or standing still, this is again and excellent choice. We're both pleased and can't wait for the next chance to manicure our lawn again!
