Disappointed with EasyBloom sensor!! February 4, 2010 L. Pickett (Kansas) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The sensor is not water proof so it is not suitable for unattended data collection outdoors. Also the sensor has to connect to the Internet to change set mode, download data, change mode which means I can not buy the additional sensors and collect data outside which makes it worthless to me. I am very disappointed there is no software I can use on my netbook or PDA. If the company goes out of business, the sensor is useless!!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably will work great for outdoor gardens in the US January 28, 2010 JungleGirl (Tokyo, Japan) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm sure that this is a great product for those who can make it work. The concept is great. Unfortunately, I probably should have waited a bit longer for more information to come out about the product before purchasing it.
I purchased the EasyBloom based on the information shown here on Amazon when the product first came out. Unfortunately, I did not look at the company's site beforehand, and the information on Amazon did not clearly state that it cannot not be used overseas. (Currently, it simply says that it is "not recommended" for overseas use.) As this is an inexpensive, simple product (as opposed to a PC or AV equipment), the thought of doing additional research didn't cross my mind.
When it arrived, I thought that I could get around the problem by putting in an American zipcode. I only grow banana plants indoors with a 800W growlamp, so I thought it would not matter much anyway. I really only wanted this for checking my indoor growing environment, which can be tweaked to match any region.
However, the sensor was unable to pick up any data. I got some help from customer service via Twitter, and I kept being told that EASYBLOOM DOES NOT WORK OVERSEAS, which the software had already told me. However, if the zip code is the only piece of data that confirms where you are, I did not understand why it would refuse to pick up any data. Then (after half-ignoring my questions), the representative gave me an answer.
Apparently, the EasyBloom only works with real sun. Customer service rep from Twitter did not elaborate and simply said that it will not work with a growlamp. Judging from this and other reviews on here, it really seems to be geared toward outdoor growing. (In the US, of course.)
That being said, this is probably a great product for its limited purposes. If anyone has any idea what I can use this device for (other than cute decoration), please let me know. As it arrived months late, my husband thinks it's probably too late to return it at this point. My rating here mostly reflects that it doesn't really work indoors (despite its description), and that the customer service I received wasn't the best. (I am not penalizing it for the overseas issue.)
Excellent, easy way to help take care of plants January 11, 2010 E. Berger (Houston, TX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just as the title says, this is an amazing product that is relatively inexpensive for what it provides. it can tell you what you should plant or diagnose what you already have planted. Gave to my parents for Christmas and I was worried the technology would be too much for them, but they are using it with ease!

EasyBloom is well...easy! - Dirt Diver January 9, 2010 Southern Gardener 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Got this as a Christmas gift. I remember seeing this somewhere before and just thought it was gimicy. It is not. I've placed it in areas where I already thought I knew the conditions and it's reports were spot-on. Very cool. Most useful for me on one of my bananas was the moisture sensing feature. I've used moisture probes, my finger, and visual to check the moisture around my bananas and all showed me the moisture content was good. But, the banana was showing signs of not enough moisture. The EasyBloom probe showed the moisture content for bananas (Musa Bajoo) was NOT adequate. I increased watering on one plant a bit and viola! The banana responded very nicely. I've since modified the soil to retain more moisture so I won't need supplement the natural rain fall.
I love this EasyBloom tool now. If it could only analys soil chemicals (i.e. N-P-K, calcium, mg, etc.) then I would give it 5 (or even 6 if I could :) stars!!
Very simple tool to use. It is actually fun...how many tools are FUN to use?
I highly recommend it as a supplement to existing tools and knowledge.
