Works Fine! July 9, 2010 Al (Santa Rosa Beach, FL United States) I've been using this now for a few months. I discovered that a 3-liter Coke bottle is great for measuring out a gallon of water to add to the opaque jug. I rinse it out after each use with water & there has been no problems with it. It seems to be pretty tough although I make sure to always pick it up with the handle rather that the pumper.
Professional Sprayer May 20, 2010 Mike S. (California, USA) This is my first sprayer, but I am a research freak and unwilling to take a chance to find out what does not work well. I have a tropical-setting house with a minimal care landscape design that grows naturally, yet like anywhere, weeds will appear. Primarily to be used with Roundup, I was looking for a sprayer that will not be too heavy to lug around, hold up under alot of wear, and have a wand/trigger mechanism that will hold up. All of the professional landscape guys i talked to say the wand is the first to break...and to get brass. After looking at all the OSH, Home Depot's, Lowes units, EVERYTHING is plastic. Some of the brass units I found online were incredibly expensive. Gilmour had a high rating and is being sold at the above mentioned stores in plastic...and in finding this grade of Gilmore with brass parts, it made sense to me.
The unti is so easy to set up, to clean and works PERFECTLY without a drip. The sprayer tip is easily adjusted for the pattern and flow of spray you desire. I could not believe how fast I applied my weed control and how easy it was. I actually began to feel stupid for waiting this long to get a sprayer, and this one is perfect for the homeowner. If you have a huge area and are far from the house in fields or gardens, look at a backpack design...but for a carry unit...you cannot find a better design or product I am convinced.
What all the positive reviews neglect to mention. April 20, 2010 NeoEngineer 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Let me start with the positives. This sprayer is constructed from fairly high quality material. However, this doesn't mean it was designed from high quality engineering. And because it fails to function *in the way it's supposed to function*, I can't give this product more than 1 star despite its use of quality materials.
What all the positive reviewers forget to mention is that the tension mechanism designed to hold the (high quality) brass spraying wand is *VERY POORLY* engineered. A few other reviews have mentioned that if it isn't tightened "just right" then the liquid being sprayed (poison, weed killer, other liquids you don't want on your skin) squirts out everywhere.
In addition, the poor design of the wand securing mechanism makes it hard to angle the tip of the wand at an optimal angle to the way your hand naturally holds the spray trigger. You have to turn the tension mechanism securing the wand to the spray trigger so tight that it rotates the wand itself, so your once perfect tip angle is rotated pointing up now.
Lastly, even after tightening the tension mechanism as tight as it would go w/o breaking the plastic mechanism itself, the wand very often comes loose and flies off easily as you swing your arms side to side in a normal spraying motion. This happened to me twice and both times, it wasted A LOT of weed killer as it gushed out of the trigger handle because the wand flew off completely. And, NO, I did not use excessive swinging movements as I sprayed, just normal movements.
This is a major engineering flaw which makes this sprayer somewhat dangerous to operate (imagine swinging the wand and having the brass wand hit someone in the face while spewing poisonous liquid all over them), which is the reason why I gave this only 1 star and returned it. It has just 1 flaw, but it is a MAJOR ONE.
The second flaw is that the green plastic container is not semi-transparent enough for you to gauge how much liquid is inside it. This flaw I could've lived with, but the poorly engineered mechanism used to secure the brass wand onto the plastic trigger is so bad that is a DEAL BREAKER, esp for a product of this price.
Piece of Cra* December 19, 2009 Nancy H. (Northern California) I wish I could give this sprayer 0 stars!!
I received this sprayer with anticipation because of the good reviews - I should have known better; cheap sprayers never work!! I filled it with Round-up and two gallons of water as instructed. Pump-pump-pump-nothing. Again, pump-pump-pump-nothing. I took it apart to make sure it was assembled correctly. Put it back together and pump-pump-pump nothing. Got my husband out to take a try. He took it apart and put it back together and pump-pump-pump-nothing!! This is fresh out of the box new and it doesn't work AT ALL - even a tiny spray!!!! So now, we have to dump the contents (expensive Round-up) and go buy another sprayer. I will never, ever buy this brand again. The brand new one will now have to go into a landfill, unused. What a shame!!!!!
SAVE YOUR MONEY and go to a local hardware store to buy a sprayer (not this brand) that is easy to return!!
good, not perfect November 2, 2009 Grandeson Nice sturdy product. Find it a bit dificult to mix properly without being able to see liquid level through container. I now understand why so many have a clear plastic or at least a clear window to help with measuring. I guess one of my products I use (a powder mix) got too thick for the unit, so I had to clean it out, a full dis-assembly was tough and involved a bit of cutting and fugazi re assembly!!lol. I guess for $33 I expected a little bit more, live and learn. Not totally disappointed, not totally not either.
