Good Product March 6, 2010 Maria (Orlando, FL) First I want to mention the delivery date was scheduled for Monday but I received the composter yesterday, 4 days early! I did a lot of research on composters and this one was very well priced, it received good reviews from other buyers, and it is made of 100% recycled plastic.
Today being the first day of use, I can say that tumbler is very durable and it's sturdy on its supports when turning. It was a little difficult to assemble, but I was doing it alone. Another person would have made the assembly much easier. I cant wait for the first batch of compost!
Achia Tumbling Composter February 15, 2010 Downeaster (Maine, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Fairly easy to assemble but takes two two carry it to a sunny spot.
This is a good way to make good use of garbage. A household of two takes about 2 months to fill the composter and another month to get some good compost for the garden. We have accellerated the action with an additive from a local greenhouse supply.
Now, it is winter. We add garbage on sunny days when the composter's temperature warms up from the sun, allowing the lid to slide open. Steam can be observed as the garbage decays during these cold February days in Maine. Looks like we will have a full load for the garden in May.
The only drawback is emptying. We use an old tarp and let the "stuff" fall through the hatch onto the tarp, dragging the "stuff" to the garden site.
Advice: Do NOT use on inside plants, as eggs from small fruit flies soon will hatch and have to be controlled. Possibly microwaving a small amount will cure that problem.
Hope You're Clever, Like My Husband February 11, 2010 Elizabeth Duggan The composter seems to be well made. It's still winter in Maine, and too early to know how well it works. My only complaint so far is that it did not come with assembly instructions, and seemed to be missing a few pieces. My husband found appropriate hardware in our garage to mount the drum on the base, and we used the photo shown above as a guide. Good luck to the rest of you.
Achla composter January 26, 2010 TexasGal (USA) I love the composter but it arrived missing one of the screws needed for assembly and then some of the holes did not line up no matter what which made assembly a little more difficult than it should have been.
Bad Customer Service January 7, 2010 Barclay Smith (Abingdon, VA) My husband gave me an Achla CMP-05 spinning composter for Christmas. Upon attempted assembly, we discovered that parts were missing including inventory sheet and instructions, fasteners (bolts nuts, washers or whatever), whatever holds the cylinder in place and whatever that might fit in or fasten to. An e-mail to Amazon has been totally ignored for over two weeks now and an e-mail to Achla has been ignored for multiple days.
Both quality control and customer service are sadly lacking.
Will definitely buy stuff like this at the local hardware store in the future.
