Perfect for the WSM February 15, 2010 James B. Leyhew 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This chimney starter is a perfect edition to the Weber Smokey Mountain. It is idiot proof and gets your charcoal going very quickly. The Rapidfire is solidly constructed and should last for many years to come.
If you are looking for a chimney...this is is! February 9, 2010 A. R. Payne (Georgia) I have went through several chimneys over the years. They were only a few dollars cheaper and they needed replacement after a couple of years mainly due to rust and failure brought on by heat. I have owned this thing for nearly 2 years and I can say it is built like a tank. One plus is it holds the proper amount of coals for a standard kettle grill. It also lights faster and more consistent than the other cheaper chimney's I have owned. The reason is the design; it has a cone shaped grate that the coals sit on instead of a standard flat grate.
Pay the extra $5 and pick this up because you will not be disappointed. Two sheets of newspaper and a lighter is all it takes to get away from that nasty lighter fluid.
Took forever to re-build my Chimney with this. January 26, 2010 gordon d. (brooklyn, ny United States) 1 out of 20 found this review helpful
I thought that this "Chimney Starter" would really get my charcoal chimney constructed faster and easier - especially with those precarious last few feet at the top when the chimney tends to topple. Yes this does lay the charcoal bricks in an orderly fashion, but after an entire afternoon, all I managed was a big pile of lump charcoals. Though the result isn't exactly like a real fireplace that I could burn logs in, it did make a pretty sweet bon fire, which unfortunately spread to the camper and the nearby propane tanks. Weber says they will replace my grill, which is annoying since I just need to replace my chimney.
First Time User - Chimney Starter January 25, 2010 "Laurie, not Lori" (Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'd been on a mission for a new electric charcoal starter, backed up and read the reviews for this one from Weber. It seemed very simplistic and very functional, so I bought one. I have to say that this chimney starter is truly amazing! I wasn't thrilled with the amount of smoke generated from the smoldering newspaper in the first 5-10 minutes, but beyond that, the charcoals heated quickly and within about 15 minutes, the charcoals were ready to go. We cooked two thick steaks on it and it was fantastic! I liked the electric starter because it was clean and simple, but this starter is terrific, too! Get beyond the smokiness of the start, the heating of the charcoal is fast and consistent. Once the coals on the top were ashen, they were ready to roll. Dumped them into the kettle grill and within minutes, we were ready to cook steaks on the grill. I have nothing to say beyond the simple fact that the steaks were delicious and it's because the grill was perfect for cooking steaks!
Great "idiot-proof" charcoal starter that's very effective! I can't believe I wasted so much time on an "artificial" starter!
