Product Description Contech - Squirrel Scatter Electronic Squirrel Proof Birdfeeder SquirrelScatter: Sturdy Attractive Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder with Automatic Squirrel Deterrent Feed birds, not squirrels. The SquirrelScatter® squirrel proof bird feeder welcomes birds and discourages squirrels. Six bird perches let birds enjoy seeds and grain. Squirrels receive a harmless, brief electrical pulse when they climb onto the thin layers of chrome on the base or roof of the bird feeder. Two D cell batteries power the squirrel repellent feature. Ideal for both gardeners and bird fanciers, the SquirrelScatter attracts wild birds while discouraging destructive squirrel pests. How and why this squirrel proof bird feeder works: The SquirrelScatter® squirrel proof bird feeder combines an efficient spill-resistant design with a harmless yet effective electronic squirrel deterrent. Birds perched at any feeding station or on any part of the feeder eat undisturbed. When a squirrel lands on the SquirrelScatterfeeder, the squirrel touches two or more points with its body and completes the electrical circuit. Completing the circuit creates mild electrical pulses similar to static electricity. The squirrel scatters. Squirrels quickly learn to stay off the bird feeder. Birds then enjoy their meals in peace. Setting up the SquirrelScatter is easy. Install two "D" cell batteries, add bird food, hang the bird feeder from a branch or pole and turn it on. To refill the SquirrelScatter squirrel proof bird feeder, switch off the power, remove the top hatch, add bird food and flip the switch to on. The pulsing light shows that the batteries are working. The SquirrelScatter operates for up to three months on one pair of alkaline batteries. Note from Barbara: Nothing like watching an envious squirrel as the birds feast from the feeder in my back yard. I had birds most of the year and no squirrels. SquirrelScatter Birdfeeder Specifications: Operation : Touching 2 or more points on the base or the

| Customer Reviews: Defective Product has now been discontinued February 12, 2010 R. Proctor (Wake Forest, NC USA) I purchased this product in June. I absolutely loved it! Much to my suprise, by December, it was no longer working. Since it has a 2 yr. warranty, I contacted the manufacturer (Contech) for a replacement. They were very willing to send a replacement unit. When I received the replacement within the week of my contact, it was not the same procut. They indicated that this particular item had been discontinued (because of performance issues). They could replace the item with the Squirrel stop. I guess that's fine, except that this item is half the price of the Squirrel Scatter Bird Feeder. They were unwilling to adjust my purchase price ($89 vs $45). I don't think I'll be purchasing another Contech product. Buyer Beware!
Failed August 20, 2009 Terry (Michigan) Worked well for 6 months and then failed. Too expensive for short life span.
Something else might be better January 25, 2009 nature lover (Cincinnati, Ohio, USA) Instead, you might also want to consider a Droll Yankee Flipper (also sold by Amazon). It is robust, does the job, only costs a little more, and does not have a shock hazard.
Great but filled with problems you won't forget December 14, 2008 Zanzibar (New England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I found this terrific, but filled with a host of problems you won't soon forget. Not even a day passed before my squirrels popped the lid off the top. There is no electricity at the top to stop them. I spent another $20 and quite a few hours and modified the top and wiring to electrify that as well. Thank goodness I am handy. This could prove frustrating if you are not handy, nor clever too. The birds can't get to the seed at the last 2" from the bottom and that quickly rots and drives the birds away. The inside is especially difficult to clean and I needed a long stick to pry out the damp solidified seed and a lot of patience to clean it. A lot of what looks like metal in the photos is silver painted plastic and while I assembled it right from the box I broke the plastic top off and had to return it for another. Don't plan to hand the metal wire bar in the picture over the branch or you will break the top right off. You need to hang this off a wire. The holes for suspending the metal wire bar are especially poorly designed. The battery cover is attached with tiny screws so be prepared to lose them. All of these problems could have easily been remedied by the staff that designed it. What a shame they didn't. Overall its excellent at keeping squirrels away. I was so inundated with sparrows after the squirrels were gone I scratched my head and wondered what have I done?
