Simple, effective, well-made January 25, 2010 Scott A. Steiner (California, USA) I live in Southern California. After April, we go about 7 or 8 months without any real rain. I grow vegetables all year round and figured it would be interesting to try out a rain barrel. I'd read about them and I know that rain water is undeniably better for plants than city water.
The product arrived on time and basically shrink wrapped in plastic. Setup was very simple. I love that the hose spigot is at the BASE of the barrel. You'll notice that many rain barrels inexplicably put the spigot halfway up, which makes getting the water under the spigot a real pain in the neck.
I was stunned by how fast the thing filled up. Within an hour of a recent rainstorm's beginning, it was full. We went three or four weeks without any more rain, and I didn't come close to emptying it - though it will no doubt drain faster in summer.
I like how the barrel can be connected to an endless series of barrels through connecting tubes - in other words, once one barrel is full, the surplus water can flow into another barrel if you want it to, ad infinitum.
My ONLY complaint about it is that it has an overflow tube, to which you attach a five foot long green tube so you can channel the overflow water away from the barrel. I found it cheap and difficult to attach. Sure enough, I went outside during a recent downpour and noticed the green tube had detached from the overflow spigot and, being full (and thus weighing over 250 pounds) I was stuck waiting for July before I can move the thing and reattach.
I bought it in October, and it was empty until December, so I'm waiting for the summer to see if mosquitos or algae are a problem, but the screen cover seems to be very effective in screening debris and bugs. We shall see.
But all in all, I like this product a lot and would like to buy three or four more.
rain barrel review August 7, 2009 Larry R. Miffleton the rain barrel was all i had hoped it would be. the lid did warp slightly sitting in the texas sun. i remedied that by placing items on the rim of the lid to hold it in place. it is on an elevated porch and the air pressure powered flow is a nice watering pace. the entire tank was filled after just one inch of rain sitting under a roof valley.
Price is extremely high! June 13, 2009 M. Normandeau 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
Do a search for rain barrels. This price is very high and there are much better ones out there. Poor quality

I LOVE my rain barrel. Maybe I was lucky, but I've had no problems whatsoever with mine. After it completely filled after only an inch of rainfall, I'm still using the water to care for my houseplants. True, you can't reach in the barrel to draw out water (unless you have really small hands and arms), but the provided hose has always worked just fine. If you're trying to conserve rain water, and you don't mind a no-frills plastic barrel, I would recommend this product.
Achla Model RB-01 Rain Catcher Water Barrel April 25, 2009 Toshiye C. Estes 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
These Rain Catcher Barrels won't be installed until the final coat of stucco is applied to the outside of the house. I am looking forward to collecting enough run off rain from my roof to water my plants come late winter, early spring.
Were able to save $110.00 in shipping through the Supper Saving Shipping on Amazon.com plus the barrels were $5.00-$10.00 cheaper than in the catalog.
